The Court Extension — Ten Visions

The I-beam idea, rendered: a new enclosed volume on the far slice of the basketball court — garage-door height plus a foot, concrete front, indestructible roof — interpreted ten ways on the same five cameras. Love it, flag it, say why.

The idea, in Ryan’s words

Seeing a listing for a 38 foot I beam, made me think, is that wide enough for the basketball court to go from one building to the other?… you're able to move the basketball wall out… as tall as the garage door, if not a foot taller… you don't fuck with the roof at all, and the short of it is, you build it in concrete. So it can just indefinitely hold however much snow is gonna fall on top of it, and it just does not matter.the whole front of it is a big wall of concrete that's, like, beautifully finished, like, stucco.ping pong, full length shuffleboard… it's an extension of this game room.there's a part of the garage that is a shop… it could get titled the shop… maybe you call this whole thing the warehouse.what is the absolute easiest way to open up a DJ booth? It looks down at this whole space.your spiral staircase could go in between this new wall and the French doors that go into the gym. With an open deck on the roof, you could do outdoor pool. You could do ping pong. You could do, you know, four martini tables up there. One other last thing is the opportunity for signage in this incredibly epic face of a wall that's behind the basketball hoop.
From the voicememo that started this — a 38-ft I-beam listing, and the whole thing unspooled. Ten interpretations below, all built on the same structure: the new ~11-ft enclosure on the I-beam line, hoop and speakers on its front wall, the existing roofs and beams untouched.

A · The Board-Formed Monolith · 10

The front wall in raw board-formed concrete — same character as the wall it replaces. Blackened steel hoop arm, bronze speakers, one flush man door. Monolithic and calm. a = day · b = dusk with the string lights on.
